A bit of bad luck

I am having to have a medical procedure that will put me out of action for a while. I am also on medication that makes driving impossible. There is no choice but to delay the start of racing until I get a vets certificate. I expect that we will be able to start in about a month or so. Of course, a full cash refund will be made those who have already joined.

In the meantime, Dunham will be holding its usual schooling sessions and offers superb facilities for rearing, schooling and training.

They can be contacted on: 07739 596 663

By the way, I'll be OK and I'm still more than capable of typing stuff into a computer.

We are finally there!

There has been a lot of stuff going on in the background, but I am delighted to say that we will be holding the first ever Club Racing meeting in the UK on Saturday 29th of March. We hope to race until the autumn with a winter break.

A few of the arrangements have changed, but the principles remain the same!

The Rules of Racing, Club Constitution and details of trials are now on our website

ANNOUNCEMENT

Dunham Racing Club - Announcement

We regret that, due to an adverse weather forecast, we are postponing the event scheduled for 24th November. A heavy frost is predicted and we do not believe that the track will be fit for racing.

Dunham Greyhound Centre does not salt or cover the track and some of the methods that can be used to get a track ready are not appropriate on this occasion. Dunham has always had a policy of cancelling trials and schooling in adverse weather.

The event was planned as a 'Pilot Meeting' to test our procedures. It was originally scheduled for earlier but we had to wait for the license and there were dates that clashed with other greyhound events. This pushed the meeting into late November and possible poor weather. We did not wish to abandon at the last minute, nor are we prepared to compromise on animal welfare. Spectator comfort in cold weather was another consideration.

We are now looking at running a series of meetings next spring, signing up members to the Club and arranging social, education and training events over the winter months.

The good news is that we now have time to:

  • ·         Arrange improved facilities for Club members and spectators.
  • ·         Organise a betting facility, based on members requirements.
  • ·         Teach some new owners how to look after and train a greyhound.
  • ·         Formally enter discussions with the GBGB regarding their Rule 154(ix) which prevents qualified staff and volunteers from working at Club meetings.

Plus, the weather will be a lot better!

Many thanks to everyone who has supported us so far - we have had dozens of good-will messages and offers of help, sponsorship and expertise. A special thanks must go to the owners who entered greyhounds - we will contact you all soon.
Keep following our web-site for the latest news.

Catch the video of our latest entry...

Have a look at the video of our latest entry on the video section. Dasher the wonder-hound having a schooling session.

Of course I will have to check the paperwork, the chip number and the owners ID. The vet will have to give it the once over. We might need a bigger set of traps and run the lure a bit slower than normal.

Dasher will definitely be at the meeting on the 24th.

We now have our first verified entries (Petlog are quite efficient and the process is dead easy) and some good news:

Firstly, a well-wisher has donated £100 for the prize for the best turned out greyhound and handler.

Secondly, Alpha have kindly donated a bag of Alpha Racer for each winner.

Thirdly, some friends have agreed to stage a whippet race over 2 bends.

I will be posting ticket information on Sunday. It looks as if we are going to have a great afternoon.

Admission to our Pilot Meeting will be by TICKET ONLY

Limited space and a lot of interest means that admission will be by ticket only.

I will post the arrangements at the weekend. Spectator vehicle passes will be on sale on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets have been reserved for participants (owners) and invited guests.

There is no on-street parking near the track and we will not be accepting payments on the day.

There will be arrangements for disabled parking.

See you on the 24th
