Dunham Racing Club -
Announcement
We
regret that, due to an adverse weather forecast, we are postponing the event
scheduled for 24th November. A heavy frost is predicted and we do not believe
that the track will be fit for racing.
Dunham
Greyhound Centre does not salt or cover the track and some of the methods that
can be used to get a track ready are not appropriate on this occasion. Dunham
has always had a policy of cancelling trials and schooling in adverse weather.
The
event was planned as a 'Pilot Meeting' to test our procedures. It was
originally scheduled for earlier but we had to wait for the license and there
were dates that clashed with other greyhound events. This pushed the meeting
into late November and possible poor weather. We did not wish to abandon at the
last minute, nor are we prepared to compromise on animal welfare. Spectator
comfort in cold weather was another consideration.
We
are now looking at running a series of meetings next spring, signing up members
to the Club and arranging social, education and training events over the winter
months.
The
good news is that we now have time to:
- · Arrange improved facilities for Club members and spectators.
- · Organise a betting facility, based on members requirements.
- · Teach some new owners how to look after and train a greyhound.
- · Formally enter discussions with the GBGB regarding their Rule 154(ix) which prevents qualified staff and volunteers from working at Club meetings.
Plus,
the weather will be a lot better!
Many
thanks to everyone who has supported us so far - we have had dozens of
good-will messages and offers of help, sponsorship and expertise. A special
thanks must go to the owners who entered greyhounds - we will contact you all
soon.
